On behalf of the RockSolid SQL team I would like to wish you a happy new year. I hope both your professional and personal objectives are achieved in 2015.

Looking back, 2014 was a stellar year for RockSolid SQL. It was out biggest year for growth, with RockSolid SQL now not only one of the largest SQL Server database service providers in Australasia, but I believe we have one of the largest footprints globally. With thanks to both our long term customers who continued to support us, and all our new customers who joined us in 2014. Together we are doing something special, we are redefining the database management space and changing the way organisations operate their critical data assets.

In 2015 we will continue to grow both our customer and database footprint, but also continue to grow our service and technology offerings to ensure we continue to support our customer's key objectives. These include:

The Public Cloud

In 2014 we saw the public cloud start to gain significant traction in the enterprise, and this will continue in 2015. RockSolid SQL is committed to ensuring we help customers utilise the public cloud in ways which provide value to your business. We are advocates of a hybrid-cloud strategy, using a combination of on-premise and public cloud resources, this combination allows customers to utilise the most suitable, and most cost effective, solution for a given problem. You will find support for this approach in our service and technology catalogue, featuring offerings such as:

SQL Server Consolidation

This remains a key issue for many organisations who are still dealing with SQL Server sprawl across dozens or even hundreds of database servers. We have assisted many clients with managing sprawl and providing a path to consolidation, from this we have developed the RockSolid Strategic Management Framework to provide our customers a roadmap for SQL Server consolidation. At a high level, this focuses on:

  • Monitoring
  • Auditing, compliance and policy definition
  • Standardisation of configuration and operational management
  • Utilisation, workload and configuration compatibility
  • Upgrade and version capability
  • Migration and consolidation plan

We recognise our solutions don't operate in an isolated environment, everything we do is part of a wider IT strategy and may involve multiple disparate systems. RockSolid SQL is committed to the highest level of integration possible, providing our customers the dependability of RockSolid management with the flexibility of direct integration with third party solutions. Our current integration includes:

  • ServiceNow for service desk integration
  • Microsoft TFS for change and deployment control integration
  • CommVault integration for direct backups from SQL Server to CommVault via RockSolid
  • Dell Litespeed and RedGate SQLBackup for local SQL Server backup compression

Our integration efforts will continue throughout 2015 to include other third party solutions across multiple different disciplines.

Database performance always has, and always will, be a key area of customer focus. Our RockSolid management technology provides extensive mechanisms to evaluate and optimise database performance. However, as a key and critical area of management we will continue to innovate capabilities in this area. This includes all areas of our technology stack, from monitoring, to issue detection analysis, automated resolution, reporting and alerting.

With the above in mind I am already excited about 2015. It is going to be a big year for our customers and a big year for us. All the best and I look forward to working with you in the year ahead.
